My name is Christa Hale-Atkinson, and I am a daughter, sister, mother, wife, volunteer, teacher, and therapist. I have always had a passion for helping others through challenges that they are facing, and I believe strongly in the saying "You are the designer of your destiny; you are the author of your story."
With an Early Childhood Education diploma from St. Clair College, a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Windsor, and a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology degree from Yorkville University, I feel that I bring a unique background and perspective to the counselling profession.
I have been employed as a teacher for more than a decade in addition to being a Registered Psychotherapist, a Clinical Traumatologist (TITC-CT), and an EMDR Trained Therapist. Thus, I bring many acquired skills into client sessions, often explicitly teaching coping strategies, emotion regulation, and mindfulness and relaxation exercises, in addition to employing common therapeutic interventions.
As someone who has always worked in education and social services, I favour a very person-centered approach to therapy.
Research shows that the greatest predictor of success in therapy is not actually in the methods used, but rather, it is the strength of the relationship between therapist and client that makes the most significant difference.
Thus, it is my goal to be as warm, empathic and approachable as possible to enable us to develop the type of therapeutic relationship that will maximize our time and your success in achieving your personal mental wellness goals.
This person-centered approach places YOU in the driver's seat, and I am seated alongside you to coach you, encourage you and celebrate your successes!
I favour an eclectic approach to counselling, combining elements from various orientations such as: narrative therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and solution-focused brief therapy. Click "Find Out More" for information about each of these types of therapy.
I work primarily with young and middle-aged adults (16+ years) experiencing a wide variety of challenges such as:
SPECIAL INTEREST: Working with high-performing athletes on issues such as motivation, pressure, the impact of sport on relationships, handling mental and emotional fatigue, etc.
Every individual's memoir (story) and needs are unique, so therapy is tailored to each client.
