My name is Christa Hale-Atkinson, and I am a daughter, sister, mother, wife, volunteer, teacher, therapist and runner. Running has always been my own personal form of “therapy”. As someone who has endured marathon training several times over, I am familiar with the rigours of intensive and regimented athletic training and the impacts that such a regimen can have on one’s life in so many ways/areas.
I have always had a passion for helping others through challenges that they are facing, and I believe strongly in the saying "You are the designer of your destiny; you are the author of your story." I have a special interest in helping elite athletes to cope with the unique pressures that they face.
With an Early Childhood Education diploma from St. Clair College, a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Windsor, and a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology degree from Yorkville University, I feel that I bring a unique background and perspective to the counselling profession.
I have been employed as a teacher for more than a decade in addition to being a Registered Psychotherapist, a Clinical Traumatologist (TITC-CT), an EMDR Trained Therapist and a Certified Sports Psychology Coach. I bring many acquired skills into client sessions, often explicitly teaching coping strategies, emotion regulation, mindfulness and relaxation exercises, and mental skills training, in addition to employing common therapeutic interventions.
I work primarily with high-performing athletes (aged 16+ years) on challenges/topics such as motivation, pressure(s), the impact of sport on relationships, handling mental and emotional fatigue, mental skills training, etc.
Additionally, I work with young and middle-aged adults experiencing a wide variety of challenges such as:
Every individual's memoir (story) and needs are unique, so therapy is tailored to each client.
